Proverbs is a book filled with wisdom. Written by Solomon, the wisest person who has ever lived, it is filled with little nuggets of Godly advice. The entire book is God’s invitation to learn wisdom from the generations of believers who have gone before us.
In Proverbs, Solomon refers to the spirit of wisdom as Lady Wisdom. I love that! It reads:
Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads. By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud,
“I call to you, to all of you! I raise my voice to all people.”
Proverbs 8:1-4 (NLT)
Lady Wisdom still calls out to us today. She encourages us in the trenches of life and on the street corners, on the hilltops and at the crossroads. She isn’t hidden away in some lofty tower where no one can hear what she’s saying. She is available to everyone everywhere. She raises her voice to ALL people.
We simply have to seek her and choose to listen.
Easier said than done sometimes, though, isn’t it.
It’s one thing to know something, but it’s an entirely different thing to be wise and actually do what we know is right. The doing is where wisdom comes in. And even though Lady Wisdom is crying out in the streets, sometimes her voice is hard to hear amidst all the noise of this world that just keeps getting noisier and noisier.
Are you seeking wisdom right now in a situation? Are you going through a rough patch and don’t know what to do?
The Good News, my friend, is God will never hold back wisdom. He will give it to anyone who asks for it. Lady Wisdom is ready to speak into your situation right here, right now. Let me encourage you from an example in my own life.
Earlier this week, I had to have a hard conversation with someone close to me, and I wasn’t sure how to start it. It was a very touchy situation where I knew I had to be gentle and kind or things were going to go south very, very quickly. My heart was to help, but I knew I had to be gentle. I could not let my emotions get the best of me.
I prayed and sat quietly before God. I lifted the conversation up in prayer, and then I did the most important thing: I listened. I sat in silence and listened for Lady Wisdom’s voice.
Out of nowhere I felt a prompting to call a good friend of mine who has a natural gift of handling hard conversations. She seems to know how to approach things in a non-threatening way, so I simply called her and asked her for advice. I explained the situation to her, and she immediately had great ways to start the dialogue in a non-threatening way.
I had the hard conversation shortly thereafter, and I left the encounter feeling good. I’m not sure things will change or the situation has been rectified, I’m still worried about this individual; but I shared my concerns in a loving, caring way as I let Godly wisdom guide me. A seed was planted, and I pray God will water it and help this person get the help they need.
I went to bed the night before that conversation extremely worried, nervous and on edge, not sure what to do. But right now, I can honestly say that I feel at peace. I know I was wise to go to God and not allow my emotions to drive my actions. Lady Wisdom helped me let it go and trust God to do what only He can do.
There is a huge difference between worldly wisdom and Godly wisdom. Godly wisdom requires that we see the world from God’s perspective and respond with Biblical principles. And when we truly seek that Godly wisdom and then follow it, the benefits are so worth it! They include:
Peace
Contentment
An increased knowledge of God and God’s divine protection
Not having to live in the prison of regret for doing something we knew was not what God was asking us to do
Easing the stress of a difficult situation when we know we’ve done all we can do and the rest is in God’s hands
Freedom from having to ask for forgiveness for words wisdom told us to keep to ourselves but we went ahead and said anyway
I don’t know what you’re walking through right now, what area of your life you need God to speak into; but I encourage you, my friend, no matter what it is, Lady Wisdom is ready to speak into it.
She’s shouting from the street corners. Are you listening?
Hugs and love,
Jill
